Florida Statutes dictate how much child support each spouse pays for each child. The statutes base the monthly amount on each party’s income. If both parties make the same amount, they pay an equal amount of child support. If one makes 60 percent and the other makes 40 percent, the monthly amount is divided approximately the same. The child support guidelines also take into consideration the amount of time-sharing each party has and the medical, insurance, and childcare expenses. Both parties must submit a Florida Family Law Financial Affidavit to show their income and liabilities.
